Chocolate Hemp Milk

Chocolate Hemp Milk

{Original post published July 23, 2019}

Hemp milk is one of my favourite non-dairy milks to make at home, because it requires NO SOAKING! So, as long as your blender is clean, you can whip this up in 5 minutes. I don’t usually strain it, either, because my blender does a really good job, and I like to keep alllllll the nutrients anyways. Just shake before drinking so you don’t get too much separation.

I like to make this recipe for breakfast, because it’s a nice change from my normal fruit-and-veggie smoothies, but requires very little prep. It keeps me full for a couple hours because of all the protein and healthy fats from the hemp seeds… and it always feels like a treat to have chocolate for breakfast.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Chocolate Hemp Milk (makes ~2 small servings or 1 large)
1/3 hemp seeds
2 cups cold filtered water
2 large medjool dates, pits removed
1/4 tsp sea salt
2 tbsp cocoa powder

Directions:
1. Place all ingredients in a high speed blender. (A vitamix, blendtec or nutribullet would all work well. If you don’t have a high speed blender it will still be yummy, but likely will be a bit more “pulpy”.)
2. Blend thoroughly- at least 60-90 seconds, until the consistency is very smooth and you no longer hear the blades hitting the dates.
3. Enjoy immediately, or store in the fridge for 1-2 days. If you don’t like the “foamy” effect caused by the blender, let it sit in the fridge for 20 minutes or so before drinking. Always shake well before serving.
